Skelz: A way to quickly bootstrap your Python project.

When I start a new Python project I find myself having to remember how to instantiate a database connection or maybe how to define an Excel writer in Pandas for writing multiple worksheets. It is usually the same set of code each time and I end up sifting through other Python projects to recollect the way to implement different objects.

I decided to write a utility that asks a set of simple questions and based on those questions, generate a skeleton.py file along with a readme.MD and (if needed) a configuration file template.

The skeleton code can include snippets and stubs for:

  • Configuration parsing.
  • File reading.
  • Pandas + Excel file writer.
  • Matplotlib.
  • MySQL
  • MongoDB
